Over the past few months, the Volunteer Centre has been developing a team of ‘Health and Well Being Volunteers’, a new volunteer workforce to support adults in the borough who are in receipt of social care services. Our new volunteer team will be providing hands on support through running activities and events for adults in receipt of social care. In addition, they will also be providing information and resources around healthy living through information days and outreach events around the borough.
The Health and Well Being Volunteers are currently made up of a combination of young people, aged 25 and under and our Personal Best volunteers, a group of clients who have previously been on our Pre-Olympic volunteer programme. The team is always looking for volunteers so feel free to contact us if you are interested in becoming a part of this exciting new initiative.
Since the creation of the Health and Well Being Volunteers in July 2011, the team have put on a quiz afternoon for a local community centre and, most recently, they escorted a group of elderly sheltered housing residents on a trip to Ham House, a local house and garden managed by the National Trust. They are currently planning a Coffee and Bingo morning for a local elderly centre and will be running Health and Well Being stalls at various upcoming local events.
