We would like to thank British Airways for their sponsorship of our annual Volunteer Awards in 2015. The event provides an opportunity to recognise the fantastic contribution made by volunteers of all ages and backgrounds in the borough.
Held on 11th November at Hammersmith Town Hall, certificates were presented by the deputy Mayor Councillor Daryl Brown to 65 volunteers nominated by 25 organisations working in Hammersmith and Fulham.
Guests were treated to delicious food from local restaurant Mahdi, who donated gift vouchers for our raffle. We would also like to thank the Lyric Theatre who provided a pair of pantomime tickets and barbershop quartet Hot Flush who performed for free.
As well meeting the cost of hosting the awards, British Airways sponsored a special Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award for inspiring and encouraging people and organisations to participate in volunteering and supporting the community. The prize winner was Angela Malone who has volunteered since 2012 for Blenheim Oasis, as a Volunteer Junior Substance Misuse Practitioner. Angela was thrilled to receive her prize of a pair of tickets to Paris.
We were very encouraged by the positive feedback we received from organisations and guests.
“It was a really enjoyable event, I cannot suggest any changes, I thought it all worked really well. I look forward to being at future events. I was moved throughout at how many vulnerable people are being supported in our community by volunteers. Where would be without all those wonderful, life changing volunteers. My hands were sore from all the clapping as there were so many heart-warming stories” Phil Storey H&F Citzens Advice
“The hall was beautifully decorated and it was obvious that a lot of trouble had been taken. The tables looked great, the food was excellent and the entertainment was very good.. We were all made to feel very special. Thank you very much! I would have sent a thank-you letter after the event but I didn't know to whom to send it.”
