Volunteer Awards
Dozens of local people who gave up their free time to help others were honoured at the Hammersmith Town Hall on the 3rd June, at an Awards Ceremony hosted by the Hammersmith & Fulham Volunteer Centre (HFVC).

Events 4 Youth @ Earls Court Festival 2011
On Friday the 13th of May the Events 4 Youth (E4Y) team made their way to the Earls Court Youth Club, with the aim of raising funds towards activities leading up to the Earls Court Festival 2011. The team presented their ideas for 30 minutes to a Key Fund Panel, which was then followed by 15 minutes of grilling by the panel members. A decision was made and E4Y were able to convince the panel to fund their ideas.

Responsible Citizenship: Integral to Success
The voluntary and private sector came together to work on a project at Normand Croft Community School. 3 teams from GE worked in partnership with Works 4 U, over 3 days, to improve the outdoor space and extensive gardens at Normand Croft.

Better Quality of Services for Users
The PQASSO workshop held on 24th May had a good attendance and proved to be a useful day for organisations wishing to move towards quality standards. HFVC, CAVSA and CASH delivered a
joint programme to outline the main PQASSO criterion. Breaking down into three working groups, those attending considered specific themes, namely the need to have best practice around governance, planning, finance, leadership and management and day to day management, and where their organisations could develop operationally and strategically.

DWP Project
The Department for Work and Pensions launched a volunteering brokerage scheme across England aimed at providing 34,000 volunteering placements in the UK.

After two action packed years of Personal Best in Hammersmith and Fulham, the project is sadly coming to an end.

Generations Together Update
Over the past three months more than 90 people have been involved in the Generations Together project, enjoying a wide range of activities, such as challenges in residential homes around the Borough, but also exciting training opportunities. Volunteer Champions – Generations Together is a project that aims to bring together young volunteers aged 16-25 and older volunteers aged 50+ within meaningful activities across the borough.

Young Event Team member, Pooja Kawa, put her event management skills into practice when she volunteered to support the organisation of the Generations Together end of project Showcase



Befriending Project
The Befriending Project is a partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Mind. The project has been established to recruit, train and manage volunteers to become mentors to socially isolated mental health service users living in the borough. The aims of the service are to support people to access social, educational and vocational activities; and to promote independence, through reducing dependency on local mental health services.



Future Jobs Fund Ends
The Future Jobs Fund, a fund of around £1 billion, was set up to support the creation of jobs for long term unemployed young people and others who faced significant disadvantages in the labour market. The Fund aimed to create 150,000 jobs. 100,000 were aimed at 18-24 year olds who have been out of work for six months or more.



New for 2011
Comic Relief Funding
H&F Mind and HFVC have secured funding from Comic Relief for a two year project proving support to young people with mental health problems in the borough of H&F.

Art and Craft Brings People Together
Over the past twelve months, our Volunteer Champions - Generations Together project has been engaging with local elderly residents in Hammersmith and Fulham by providing a series of Arts and Crafts events at local care homes, residential centres and community organisations for 50+ clients.

West London Network Conference
The 5th West London Network conference took place at Hammersmith & Fulham Town Hall on the 9 February and was chaired by Taz Nagra, Director of Hounslow Volunteer Centre. The network is made up of a number of West London Volunteer Centres: Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Harrow, Hillingdon, and Ealing. The theme of the conference was about local businesses working together with volunteer involving organisations.

Events 4 Youth Parliament Elections
On 2nd of March 2011 Events4Youth helped the Borough Youth Forum (BYF) representatives host the 2011 UK Youth Parliament Elections Results. The event took place at the Hammersmith Town Hall, where our volunteers helped support the smooth running of the proceedings.
