Swapping spreadsheets for paint brushes is good for Mental Health!

22nd and 23rd February 2010

The staff at Betfair continue to leave a positive mark in the local community through team volunteering activities. Their latest challenge saw 20 employees from the finance department exchange spreadsheets for paint brushes on the 22nd and 23rd February.

The teams challenge was to repaint the entire building belonging to Forward Mental Health, a local charity that provides support to residents primarily from the Black and Minority Ethnic community who have mental health needs. They re-painted the reception area, 5 offices, the kitchen and 2 corridors which resulted in the building looking a lot brighter and welcoming for service users.

Pauline Hutchison, Trustee and Chair of Forward Mental Health, was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. “Everything was coordinated so well and the end result was greatly appreciated by the staff and management committee. The service users have also gained from the much brighter and cleaner environment. The Betfair volunteers were really great and I was so impressed with the numbers who were prepared to give their time and energy for the benefit of the local community.”

The team was also satisfied with the end result, with some happy to discover a new found talent in painting and others welcoming the opportunity to bond with colleagues. “I knew it would be a hard working challenge, but it felt good to do it” said one volunteer. Another volunteer said that “it only takes one small step to make a huge difference”.

Works 4 U are looking forward to completing further projects with Betfair and continues to praise them for their ongoing commitment to the local community.
