Personal Best Bus Drives Around H&F

7th May 2010

In May, staff from Hammersmith and Fulham Volunteer Centre took to the streets in an old fashioned Route Master London Bus to promote the Personal Best Project, a groundbreaking training programme linked to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will help around 200 unemployed local residents gain a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification in volunteering as well as giving them a chance to do a work placement and improve their chances of finding employment.

The Route Master bus drove around the borough, stopping at various estates to hand out leaflets, talk to residents and get new recruits signed up for the next course. The old fashioned bus proved to be quite a spectacle and many intrigued local residents came to talk to us about what we were promoting.

Two volunteers who have been through the Personal Best Programme were on hand to tell local residents about the benefits of the course and what they have achieved.

Natasha Hamilton who is a Personal Best graduate, volunteered on the bus for the day.

'I wanted to get out there to local people to tell them what a great programme Personal Best is. Since being on Personal Best, I have got a new qualification, gained some work experience and found paid work.. I want to let people know this programme is around to give them an opportunity to gain more skills and experience.'
